Barr Alex Edim, Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Nyanya/Karu Branch in the Federal Capital Territory, has urged Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu to support Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe’s reelection bid for Cross River North in 2027.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday at his office in Abuja, Edim said the governor’s backing of the senator would guarantee him overwhelming support from the senatorial district during his own reelection.
He noted that Senator Jarigbe has won the affection of constituents through his performance and political style. “Due to his performance and the way he has been going about his politics, the people have loved him more,” he said.
Edim was emphatic on the political strategy available to the governor. “It is common knowledge in Cross River North Senatorial District, that the easiest way for His Excellency the Governor of Cross River State, Apostle, Senator, Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Sweet Prince, can secure 100% support of Cross River North in his reelection come 2027, is for him to support the performing Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe’s reelection bid.”
He added that the governor could leverage the senator’s popularity for his own electoral advantage. “Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe is loved by a good majority of constituents in the zone, so the Governor will ride on this singular gesture and goodwill established by the senator, for easy sail in his reelection bid.”
While acknowledging the governor’s efforts in the zone, the NBA chairman cautioned that politics requires strategic moves. “There is no doubt that the Governor is doing well in the zone, however politics is a game with so much intricacies.”
He advised Governor Otu to act on the suggestion for a smooth outcome in 2027. “The Governor should take this hint and act accordingly for a smooth, transparent and seamless general election in the zone.”
