Abuja

House of Representatives aspirant Dr Okwudili Ezeike has defected from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, moving with a large base of supporters ahead of the contest for Aguata Federal Constituency in Anambra State.

The US-based attorney and medical expert announced the decision in a press release made available to journalists on Tuesday. Ezeike said the switch was driven by a commitment to service, unity, and effective governance for the people of Aguata.

According to Ezeike, delivering transparent and impactful representation requires a political platform that is disciplined, well organized, and free from rancour. He noted that the NDC provides the stability, focus, and integrity needed to drive inclusive development and respond to constituents’ needs.

Ezeike commended his followers for their loyalty and courage in embracing the new direction. He described them as partners in a movement anchored on accountability, responsiveness, and a clear vision for Aguata’s growth across health, education, and youth empowerment.

Assuring the entire constituency of diligent and people-centered service, the aspirant pledged to offer the kind of representation the people have long yearned for. He promised accessibility, open dialogue, and measurable results rooted in compassion and competence.

The Ekwulobia-born leader recalled his tenure as president of Ekwulobia indigenes resident in the United States, saying that role demonstrated his capacity for coalition-building, transparent leadership, and prudent management of collective resources. He said those qualities will define his legislative agenda.

Ezeike stressed that his campaign will prioritize fight against insecurity, job creation, support for SMEs, improved healthcare access, and educational opportunities for young people. He added that integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to the public good are the values that must guide anyone seeking to excel in public office.

Stakeholders in Aguata have welcomed the move, describing it as a boost for issue-based politics. With his defection, Ezeike said he is ready to work with community leaders, women, and youth groups to build a united, prosperous, and forward-looking constituency.

On security, he vowed to champion legislation that supports better funding, training, and welfare for security personnel while promoting community policing and youth engagement to curb crime at the grassroots. He stressed that protecting constituents is not negotiable, and promised to be a strong, accountable voice in the National Assembly to ensure that every ward in Aguata enjoys peace, safety, and the confidence to thrive.
