Senator Ahmad Lawan, the former Senate President has been named the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Yobe North Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections, according to a press statement from Ezra Tabiowo, Media Adviser to the Senator Monday.
Following his nomination on Monday, Lawan thanked the APC national and state leadership, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, and Minister of Police Affairs Senator Ibrahim Gaidam for their support. He said stakeholders in the district affirmed his candidacy after clearance by the party’s national leadership.
Lawan said Nigeria was undergoing a courageous transformation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pointing to a resurgence in economic reform and infrastructure revitalization. He noted that the administration had taken difficult but necessary steps to reposition the economy for sustainable growth.
“Through the Renewed Hope Agenda, we are seeing consequential investments in student loans, consumer credit, and agricultural revitalization that directly address the needs of our people,” he said. Lawan added that his return to the Senate would allow him to work closely with the Tinubu administration to ensure Yobe North, Yobe State, and the North East benefit fully from the national rebirth.
Outlining his vision for 2027, the lawmaker pledged to push for a Yobe North integrated into the digital economy, with youth equipped with market-ready skills and global opportunities. He also promised support for farmers to transition from subsistence to commercial agribusiness.
Lawan called for a peaceful, issue-based political season and assured constituents of sustained democratic dividends under the APC.
