A member representing Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State, Princess Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji, has raised an alarm over threats to her life allegedly made by a group of people after the All Progressives Congress primaries in Sagamu Local Government Area.
Reacting to a viral video circulating online, the lawmaker said a group of young men in Sagamu threatened to end her life if she did not leave the town. She described the threat as worrisome and contrary to the principles of democracy.
Elegbeji called on the appropriate authorities, particularly security agencies and APC leaders in the state, to take the matter seriously and ensure the safety of all political actors in the constituency.
“This video is a threat against me. Asking me to leave the town or else, I’m not safe. I have informed the police and DSS in my area about the situation,” she said.
The House of Representatives member said she has consistently stood for peace, unity, fairness, and issue-based politics throughout her political career. She expressed disappointment that such intimidation would surface in a democratic process.
Elegbeji questioned why elections should be conducted in an atmosphere of intimidation, violence, or unrest, stressing that such practices undermine public trust in the electoral system.
She maintained that political ambition should never come at the expense of human lives, safety, and the long-standing harmony within Remo Federal Constituency. According to her, the pursuit of office must remain within the bounds of civility and the rule of law.
The lawmaker emphasized that the people of Remo are known for political maturity and peaceful coexistence. She urged party members and stakeholders to take urgent steps to arrest the situation before it escalates.
Elegbeji urged her supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while security agencies investigate the incident. She reaffirmed her commitment to responsible representation and progressive politics aimed at the growth and development of the constituency.
Since assuming office on October 25, 2025, following her victory in the August 2025 bye-election, Elegbeji said she has remained steadfast in delivering purposeful, people-centered representation for Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo North. She also pledged to continue building on the legacy of the late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga by placing the people’s interests above all else.
