APC releases list of senatorial candidates ahead of 2027 elections so far

The All Progressives Congress has published a partial list of its senatorial candidates for the 2027 general elections, showing the party’s choices across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Several high-profile politicians, including serving governors, former governors, and sitting lawmakers, feature prominently on the list.

In Abia State, the APC named former governor Orji Uzor Kalu for Abia North, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jr for Abia South, and Emeka Atuma for Abia Central. The trio will carry the party’s flag in the South East state.

Adamawa State will see Governor Umaru Fintiri contest for Adamawa North, while Felix Tangwami was selected for Adamawa South. The party is banking on the governor’s influence to retain the state.

Akwa Ibom State’s slate includes Senate President Godswill Akpabio for Akwa Ibom North-West, Aniekan Bassey for North-East, and Ekong Sampson for South. The lineup signals the APC’s push to consolidate control in the South-South zone.

Anambra State candidates are Nelson Onubuogu for North, Kene Chiedu Ngozi Benedicta for Central, and Chibuogu Oraelusi for South. Benedicta’s nomination makes her one of the few women on the list so far.

In Bauchi State, the party picked Yakubu Abdullahi for Bauchi South and Ibrahim Baba for North. Bayelsa State will field Fidelis Agbiki for West, Friday Kombowei Benson for Central, and Israel Sunny-Goli for East.

Benue State’s candidates include Dave Padopads-Awunah for North-West, former governor Gabriel Suswam for North-East, and Francis Agbo for South. In Borno State, the APC retained Senator Kaka Shehu for Central, Senator Ali Ndume for South, and Tahir Monguno for North.

Cross River State will be represented by Jarigbe Jarigbe for North, Oden Ewa for Central, and Asuquo Ekpenyong for South. Delta State’s list features Ede Dafinone for Central, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa for North, and Joel-Onowakpo Thomas for South.

Edo State has former governor Adams Oshiomhole for North, Joseph Ikpea for Central, and Ogbeide-Ihama Omoregie for South. Ekiti State candidates are Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele for Central, Cyril Fasuyi for North, and Yemi Adaramodu for South.

Enugu State’s slate includes Osita Ngwu for West, Kelvin Chukwu for East, and Ikeje Asogwa for North. In Gombe State, Governor Inuwa Yahaya will contest North, with Mohammed Ahmed and Jerry Damara taking Central and South respectively.

Imo State presents Governor Hope Uzodimma for West, Alex Mbata for East, and Patrick Ndubueze for North. Jigawa State candidates are Babangida Hussain for North-West, Ahmed Malam Madori for North-East, and Sani Garba for South-West.

Kaduna State will field former governor Ramalan Yero for North, former senator Shehu Sani for Central, and Sunday Katung for South. Kano State’s lineup includes Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau for North, former governor Ibrahim Shekarau for Central, and Abdulrahman Kawu for South.

Katsina State features Mutari Dandutse for South, Nasir Daura for North, and Abdulaziz Yar’Adua for Central. Kebbi State candidates are Adamu Aliero for Central, Yahaya Abdullahi for North, and Jafar Gajere for South.

Kogi State has Joseph Erico for East and former governor Yahaya Bello for Central. Kwara State’s list includes Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for Central, Sadiq Umar for North, and Muheebah Dankaka for South. Dankaka is another female candidate on the roster.

Lagos State will field Wasiu Eshinlokun for Central, Tokunbo Abiru for East, and former deputy governor Idiat Adebule for West. Nasarawa State presents Governor Abdullahi Sule for North and Faisal Shuaib for West.

Niger State candidates are Idris Kutigi for South, Sani Musa for East, and Sani Bello for North. Ogun State has Governor Dapo Abiodun for East, Jimoh Ojugbele for West, and Shuaib Salisu for Central.

Ondo State’s slate includes Gbenga Elegbeleye for North, Taiwo Fasoranti for Central, and Isaacs Kekemeke for South. Osun State will field Francis Fadahunsi for East, Adekunle Adeogoke for Central, and Akintunde Oyebiyi for the remaining slot.

Oyo State candidates are Remi Oseni for South and Yunusi Akintunde for Central. Plateau State features David Barji for Central, former governor Simon Lalong for South, and Simon Mwadkwon for North.

Rivers State has Felix Obuah for West, Allwell Onyesoh for East, and Barry Mwara for South-East. Sokoto State candidates are former governor Aliyu Wamakko for Central, Umaru Ajiya for East, and Ibrahim Danbaba for South.

Taraba State will field Manu Haruna for Central and David Jimkuta for South. Yobe State presents Governor Mai Mala Buni for East, Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan for North, and Ibrahim Bomai for South.

Zamfara State candidates are former governor Abdulaziz Yari for West, Ikra Bilbis for Central, and Sahabi Ya’u for North. For the Federal Capital Territory, the APC named Philip Aduda as its candidate.

The party noted that some senatorial districts are still pending due to inconclusive primaries, internal disputes, zoning disagreements, logistical challenges, and postponements. The remaining candidates are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
