Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has declared several critical road and infrastructure projects across Abuja ready for formal inauguration in June 2026. The commissioning is scheduled to mark the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The announcement followed an extensive inspection tour on Monday, May 25, 2026, covering key projects including the Renewed Hope City Access Road in Karsana District, the rehabilitation of Old Keffi Road, FCT Highway 105 from Airport Road to Kuje, Phase 1 of the Kuje–Gwagwalada Road, and the Abuja City Gate remodeling.

During the tour, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, describing the day as “one of the happiest days” as the long-anticipated projects are now primed for inauguration. He said the developments reflect tangible progress in delivering infrastructure for FCT residents.

The Minister disclosed that the access road to the Renewed Hope City in Karsana, designed to unlock thousands of affordable housing units, is 98% complete. He commended construction firm Lubriks for its work on the corridor, calling it a vital link for the district’s growth.

He also confirmed that the 17km rehabilitation of Old Keffi Road, stretching from Kado Village and Life Camp junction to the Dei-Dei axis, is cleared for commissioning. Contractors are finalizing asphalt paving and street light installation. Once completed, the road will connect Saburi, Gwagwa, Idu, and Karmo directly to the Outer Northern Expressway, significantly cutting travel time.

Wike praised the progress on FCT Highway 105 from Airport Road to Kuje, handled by Arab Contractors, describing it as “a stellar example of governance in action.” He added that Phase 1 of the Kuje–Gwagwalada Road, executed by Gilmor, is also complete and has transformed the visual landscape of Kuje.

At the Abuja City Gate remodeling site, the Minister said the project is on track for handover in early June and will give the capital a modern, welcoming look. He noted that the landmark face-lift, executed by Julius Berger Plc, was the initiative of First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu. “This is what you have when you have a good woman who means well for the administration of her husband,” Wike said.

Speaking on political developments in Rivers State, Wike said he was unsurprised by the emergence of Rt. Hon. Kingsley Chinda as the APC governorship flagbearer, citing Chinda’s experience in both the executive and legislature. He criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara for picking the APC nomination form after agreeing not to seek a second term as part of a deal to drop impeachment proceedings, adding that Fubara’s late withdrawal had cleared the way for Chinda’s candidacy.
