The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has congratulated its Board of Trustees member, Comrade Ruth Abubakar, on emerging as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Billiri East State Constituency seat in the Gombe State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections. The commendation was contained in a statement signed by National Secretary Wasilah Ladan on Monday.
NAWOJ National Chairperson, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim, described the victory as a milestone not only for women in journalism but also for women in leadership and politics across Nigeria. She said Abubakar’s emergence reflects the growing participation of competent women in governance and decision-making.
In her congratulatory message, Ibrahim praised Abubakar for her resilience, commitment, and years of service to humanity. She expressed confidence that the NAWOJ BOT member would bring integrity, dedication, and grassroots experience to legislative representation if elected in 2027.
“Our very own Ruth Abubakar has continued to distinguish herself as a woman of courage, vision, and capacity. Her emergence as the PDP candidate for Billiri East is a proud moment for the entire NAWOJ family,” Ibrahim stated.
The association also commended the NAWOJ Gombe State Chapter for its solidarity and support during the primary election. According to reports, members of the state chapter were fully on ground to support Abubakar, whose presence they described as a demonstration of unity and sisterhood within the association.
Political observers in Gombe said Abubakar’s emergence is a significant boost for women’s political inclusion in the state. Supporters and well-wishers have continued to celebrate the development, expressing optimism that her candidacy will inspire more women to participate actively in politics and public service.
