The leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has approved special waivers for two prominent Delta politicians, former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Age and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, to contest senatorial seats under the party’s banner in the 2027 general elections, according to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

Under the party’s arrangement, Omo-Age will contest the Delta Central Senatorial District seat, while Ochei has been cleared to run for the Delta North Senatorial District seat. The approvals came shortly after both politicians officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the NDC.

In a statement released on Thursday by the National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director (Esq.), the NDC welcomed the duo into its ranks and described their entry as a major boost for the party’s growing political structure in Delta State and nationally.

The statement emphasized that the NDC is committed to providing a fair, inclusive, and credible platform for all aspirants. Party officials said internal democracy and equal opportunity remain central to how the NDC conducts its affairs ahead of 2027.

The party explained that the decision to grant waivers was influenced by the extensive political experience, leadership track records, and dedication of both men to democratic governance, public service, and development-oriented politics.

The NDC expressed confidence that Omo-Age and Ochei possess the political strength, grassroots influence, and institutional knowledge required to effectively represent their constituencies and push legislation that benefits their districts.

The party also noted that their entry would strengthen NDC’s presence in Delta State and improve its preparedness ahead of the 2027 elections. Leadership reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and unity as guiding principles for the party’s operations.

Omo-Age, who served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate and previously contested the Delta governorship election, recently confirmed his resignation from the APC and his intention to return to the Senate under the NDC platform. Similarly, Victor Ochei, a former Speaker and influential figure in Delta North, has formally aligned with the NDC as part of broader political realignments ahead of the polls.
