Abuja

Aspirants vying for the House of Representatives ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency have agreed to step down for Dr. Obika in a consensus arrangement aimed at strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was reached on Saturday after a series of consultations with party leaders, elders, and key stakeholders across the constituency. The aspirants said the move was necessary to promote unity, avoid a divisive primary, and present a strong candidate for the seat.

In a joint statement signed by the aspirants, they cited the need for cohesion within the NDC as the main reason for backing Dr. Obika. They noted that a consensus candidate would allow the party to focus on grassroots mobilization and voter engagement rather than internal contest.

Party leaders in AMAC/Bwari described the development as a demonstration of maturity and loyalty to the NDC’s collective interest. They praised the aspirants for prioritizing party unity over personal ambition, saying it reflects the spirit needed to win elections in 2027.

Hon  Obika, while accepting the endorsement, thanked his co-aspirants for the sacrifice and confidence reposed in him. He pledged to run an inclusive campaign that carries everyone along and to work with all party members to deliver victory for the NDC in the federal constituency.

He also promised to focus on key issues affecting residents of AMAC/Bwari, including infrastructure development, youth empowerment, security, and improved access to healthcare and education. According to him, the constituency deserves effective representation that can attract projects and influence national policy.

The NDC leadership in the FCT welcomed the consensus arrangement, saying it will reduce tension and save resources that would have been spent on primaries. The party chairman for AMAC/Bwari urged members to remain united and support Dr. Obika as the party’s flagbearer.

Political observers say the move positions the NDC strongly in AMAC/Bwari, a constituency known for competitive elections. With aspirants now speaking in one voice, the party is expected to consolidate support and mount a formidable challenge in the next polls.

Stakeholders and community leaders in the area have also commended the aspirants for their decision, noting that unity within political parties is critical for sustainable development and effective representation.

As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, the NDC in AMAC/Bwari says it is ready to present Dr. Obika as its candidate, with the full backing of all aspirants and party structures in the constituency.
