Abuja

Chief Nnamdi Iro Orji, popularly known as Opotoyom, and Ugoeze Elizabeth Ndidiamaka Obioma have emerged winners of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) primary elections in Abia State, party sources confirmed.

The primaries, held on May 29, 2026, produced Orji as the NDC flag-bearer for Abia North Senatorial District, according to media reports. Reports also had it that, the exercise drew a large turnout of party members from the five local government areas that make up the senatorial zone.

Chief Orji reportedly defeated three other aspirants, including former House of Representatives member Uko Nkole, to clinch the senatorial ticket. His victory positions him to contest for the Abia North seat in the next general election under the NDC platform.

In a related development, Ugoeze Elizabeth Ndidiamaka Obioma has emerged winner of the NDC primary election for Bende Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat. The keenly contested exercise took place at Uzuakoli Town Hall in Bende Local Government Area.

Despite delays in commencement, officials said the Bende primary was peacefully concluded. Party members praised the orderly conduct after voting, even as the NDC National Executive Council is yet to officially announce and transmit the full list of candidates to INEC.

With both victories, the NDC is expected to present Orji and Obioma as its standard-bearers for Abia North and Bende respectively, pending NEC’s ratification at its upcoming meeting in Abuja.
