Here Ekuson Nw’Ogbunka, our Managing Editor reports that Karu has a new story to tell. On Monday, June 29, 2026, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, officially commissioned the newly rehabilitated and expanded road network from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction, plus adjoining roads in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). The 15km transformation, powered by solar streetlights and delivered in record time, is more than infrastructure. It is Renewed Hope you can drive on, walk on, and build a business around.

The Corridor That Powers Abuja’s East Gate

Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu said the project tackles years of congestion on the Karu corridor, the critical gateway between the FCT and neighboring states. For commuters, traders, students, and families, the daily stress of gridlock is now giving way to speed, safety, and certainty.

Asphalt That Puts Money Back in Your Pocket

“For years, Karu suffered from severe traffic congestion that drained productivity and energy,” the President said. “By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt; we are injecting life back into the local economy.” Shorter commutes mean lower transport costs, more business hours, and faster access to markets.

Renewed Hope, Delivered Back-to-Back

The roads come just one week after President Tinubu commissioned water supply to Karu and surrounding communities. That one-two punch, water last week, roads this week, shows an administration that keeps its promises and moves at the speed residents deserve.

Safe Nights, Brighter Streets

Safety is built in. Modern solar-powered streetlights now illuminate the entire network. “These streetlights are lighting dark stretches, drastically reducing nighttime crime, and improving visibility for motorists,” President Tinubu stated. For night-shift workers, traders, and families, Karu feels safer after dark.

Visionary Leadership, Visible Results

The President commended FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike, CON, for “dogged, relentless and focused supervision.” From satellite towns to the city centre, the Minister’s aggressive delivery of the urban renewal master plan is now impossible to miss, starting right here in Karu.

A Government That Sees Every Nigerian

“By prioritizing high-density, strategic satellite towns like Karu alongside the city centre, the FCT Administration is validating our governance philosophy: that the wealth of this territory must yield practical, everyday comfort for all socio-economic classes,” the President said. Karu is proof that development is not limited to the centre.

Proudly Nigerian, World-Class Quality

President Tinubu applauded Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited for quality work and timely delivery. “Nigerian firms can match international benchmarks for quality, structural integrity, and project management,” he noted. This is homegrown capacity delivering global standards at home.

Your Roads, Your Responsibility

To protect this investment, the President urged the Karu community to take ownership. Avoid vandalism. Stop indiscriminate roadside dumping that clogs drains. “Ensure that the roads serve the long-term interest of the community,” he said. When residents protect the asset, the asset protects livelihoods.

Minister Wike: Every Promise Kept

Barr. Nyesom Wike expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu for unfailing support and for being present at commissionings across the FCT. “All road projects requested by Karu residents have been fully delivered, completely transforming the local landscape,” the Minister disclosed.

Development Speaks Louder Than Politics

Wike’s message was clear and inclusive: “It doesn’t matter the political party you belong to; when you see a good thing, you should say it is a good thing. Mr. President, whether anybody hates you or not, they cannot hate this road. The opposition uses this road. This is what development is supposed to be.”

Contractor Commitment That Never Wavered

The Minister praised Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited and Managing Director Otunba Abdullahi Suleiman Bello for financial commitment and resilience. Despite payment timelines, the firm never abandoned site and delivered ahead of the administration’s third-year anniversary. That is partnership that delivers.

FCTA Stands Behind the Vision

FCTA Head of Service, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, thanked President Tinubu for steadfast commitment to national development, the National Assembly for legislative backing, and Minister Wike for “bringing Renewed Hope directly to the doorsteps of FCT residents.” The institutions are aligned, and Karu is benefiting.

Built Fast. Built Right. Built to Last

Coordinator, Satellite Towns Development Department, Hon. Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said the contract was awarded to Messrs Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited on August 22, 2025, and completed in nine months. The full scope: 15km roads, site clearance, earthworks, trapezoidal concrete drains, pipes and box culverts, pedestrian walkways, and solar-powered street lighting.

Engineering You Can Trust

Otunba Bello thanked the FCT leadership for trusting an indigenous firm. He assured that the project was executed to the highest engineering standards to stand the test of time, and thanked Karu residents for their patience during construction. Quality now, durability for generations.

Karu’s Invitation: Move Faster, Grow Bolder

This is your moment, Karu. With faster travel, safer nights, clean water, and modern drainage, the new corridor lowers costs for businesses, opens doors for investors, and creates space for jobs, housing, and services to thrive. The Federal Government has delivered the platform. The FCT has provided the leadership. Abdul-Val has delivered the quality. Now it is Karu’s turn to own it, protect it, and build on it. Renewed Hope is here. Karu is rising.
