Abuja the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended members of the League of Anambra Journalists in Abuja (LAJA) for their cooperation, unity and support to the council leadership.
The commendation was given by the FCT NUJ Chairperson, Comrade Grace Ike*, when executive members of LAJA paid her a courtesy visit at the NUJ Press Centre in Utako, Abuja, over the weekend.
Comrade Ike acknowledged the role LAJA members played during and after her election. She said their solidarity contributed to the stability of the council and urged them to sustain the spirit.
“Continue to promote unity, love and peace among yourselves,” Comrade Ike told the delegation. “If you keep this up, it will go a long way for LAJA, the NUJ, and the country in general.”
She also urged other state associations in the FCT to emulate LAJA. According to her, such example would strengthen cohesion within the union and uphold professional standards.
The FCT NUJ Chairperson further charged journalists to strictly adhere to the ethics of the profession* in their reportage, stressing that credibility remains the bedrock of journalism.
Earlier, the Secretary of LAJA, Princess Ekwu Ajide, who led the delegation, hailed Comrade Ike’s performance since assuming office. She advised the Chairperson to maintain the tempo of her leadership.
Princess Ajide disclosed that LAJA has resolved to collaborate with the FCT NUJ on programs and activities. “LAJA is solidly behind you and the council,” she assured.
Also speaking, LAJA member, Abbanobi-Eku Onyeka, commended Comrade Ike for her open-door policy and transparent leadership style. He described women as naturally prudent and said if leaders like Ike were given broader responsibility, Nigeria would experience the kind of leadership citizens yearn for.
Other LAJA members present called for collective effort to move the union forward. They pledged continued support for the FCT NUJ council to achieve its set goals.
