The Commandant General, CG, of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has charged personnel to uphold integrity in the discharge of their duties to effectively deliver on the agency’s mandate. This was contained in a press release signed on Tuesday by Babawale Afolabi, Assistant Commandant of Corps and National Public Relations Officer.
Prof. Audi gave the charge in Abuja during the induction of 100 Anti-Fraud Unit officers drawn from various formations across the country and the launch of two books authored by the head of the unit.
He emphasized that executing the Corps’ key responsibilities of protecting lives and property, maintaining public order, and promoting community safety is impossible without integrity.
“Fraud and corruption are insidious threats that can undermine our efforts, erode public trust, and compromise the very fabric of our agency,” the CG stated. “They not only affect our operations but also tarnish the reputation of the entire civil service. Today, we take a stand against these threats, reinforcing our commitment to ethical conduct and accountability.”
In her welcome address, the Head of the Anti-Fraud Unit, Commandant of Corps Emeribe Chinyere Victory, PhD, said the unit remains committed to driving integrity, transparency, and accountability across the agency.
She noted that since the unit’s creation in 2007 and initial training at the EFCC Institute in 2008, successive leaderships have enhanced capacity building. She expressed gratitude to Prof. Audi for providing an enabling environment free from interference, adding that the unit continues to detect, prevent, and investigate corrupt activities involving personnel and contractors.
The event also featured the launch of two books authored by Dr. Emeribe: _The Dark Side of Duty_ and _The Anti-Fraud Lexicon*. The books were reviewed by retired Assistant Controller General, ACG, Hammed Abodurin, PhD, fdc.
Goodwill messages were delivered by key security stakeholders. They included Hajiya Hafsat Abubakar Bakori, Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU; Peter Edako, representative of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA; DCP Adeola Odetunde, representative of the Inspector General of Police, IGP; and ACG Lakitile Cyrus, representative of the Controller General of Corrections.
In another development, the Federal Government has directed the upgrade of the Tactical Training Ground and Obstacle Course of the FCT Command of the NSCDC to enhance the training, development and operational readiness of the Corps.
The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this at the commissioning of the facility on Thursday in Abuja. He was represented by the Commandant General, Prof. Audi, who described the facility as more than a physical structure.
“This occasion represents far more than the unveiling of a physical structure. This is a celebration of vision, commitment and strategic investment in the future of the Corps,” the minister said. Announcing the directive, Audi said, “The minister has directed me to begin the process of upgrade of this training centre to a standard level where, because as it is now, you can only find something like this in our training schools. I think it’s only one or two commands that have a semblance of this.”
