Controversy has trailed a viral video of Senator Francis Fadahunsi after he urged APC supporters in Ilesa to “kill Accord,” ahead of Osun’s August 15, 2026 governorship poll.
In the video, the Osun East Senator was heard in Yoruba accusing Accord Party members of attacking APC supporters and telling the gathering to retaliate. He also dared people to record him.
The comment quickly went viral and drew condemnation, with the campaign council of Governor Ademola Adeleke calling on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to investigate the lawmaker.
But in a statement on Tuesday, Fadahunsi’s media office said the remark was misinterpreted and was never intended to promote violence.
Titled, ‘Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,’ the statement said the senator was only asking APC members to vote Accord out.
“At no point did Senator Fadahunsi advocate violence, intimidation or any form of physical attack against members or supporters of the Accord Party or any other political party,” it stated.
The office explained that the comment was metaphorical and aimed at mobilizing voters to reject Accord “through lawful, peaceful and democratic means.”
The senator also appealed to political actors and the electorate to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the election.
He further called on security operatives to remain professional and protect every eligible voter’s constitutional right.
“We appeal to members of the public not to misinterpret or deliberately distort the Senator’s comments, as they were clearly intended to encourage electoral victory through the power of the ballot and not through violence,” the statement said.
