“Your vote can decide the Nigeria you will live in.”

By Hon. Frank Chike Okoli

As we look toward the next general elections, politics will return to our streets, our markets, and our conversations. Posters will go up. Promises will be made. Money will be shared.

But beyond the noise, there is one quiet, personal question every Nigerian must answer before entering the voting booth:

“What has my life, my value, and my quality of life been like before the last elections, and what is it like now?”

That is the only question that matters.

The Measure of Governance Is Your Life

Elections are not about parties. They are not about slogans. They are not about big rallies on television.

Elections are about you. About whether you can feed your family without borrowing. About whether your children can go to school and come out with hope. About whether you can travel on our roads and return home safely. About whether, when you are sick, there is a hospital with doctors and drugs. About whether your work and your dignity are respected.

Governance must be measured at the level of the kitchen table, the classroom, the hospital bed, and the bus park. If life has become harder, if value has been lost, if quality has dropped, then we must ask why, and we must decide to change it.

The Power that Belongs to You

In a democracy, power does not belong to Abuja. It does not belong to the governor’s office. It does not belong to those with federal might or deep pockets.

Power belongs to you. It is in your Permanent Voter’s Card.

We have seen proof of this. We saw it when the people stood firm and protected their mandate. We saw that votes counted. We saw that when citizens are determined, no amount of money and no amount of pressure can override their will.

Your vote is not for sale. Your vote is not a gift. Your vote is your voice. It is your contract with the future.

The Choice before Us in 2027

The next election will present us with a clear choice. The choice between continuity of hardship and a new direction of service. The choice between leadership that serves self and leadership that serves the people.

We must reject politics of ethnicity, religion, and stomach infrastructure. We must embrace politics of competence, character, and compassion. We must ask every candidate: “What is your plan for my life? For my job? For my children? For my community?”

Do not vote because of a bag of rice. Do not vote because someone shares your surname. Vote because someone has shown capacity. Vote because someone has shown integrity. Vote because someone will be accountable to you after election day.

A Call to Action

To the youth: This country is yours. Do not sit out. Register, collect your PVC, and vote. And after voting, stay to protect your vote.

To the civil society and media: Keep asking questions. Keep tracking promises. Keep holding power to account.

To political parties: Present us with men and women of proven character. Not those running from one investigation to another.

The Nigeria of our dreams will not be built by accident. It will be built by deliberate choices, made one vote at a time.

Conclusion

As 2027 approaches, let us remember: government is about people. And the purpose of government is the welfare and security of the people.

So before you vote, go back in your memory. Think of your life before the last elections. Think of your life today. Think of the life you want for your children tomorrow.

Then let your conscience and your vote decide.

This is not about party. This is about country.
This is not about them. This is about you.

Your vote can decide. Use it wisely.

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
