Political leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and other parties in Akwa Ibom State on Saturday threw their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno for the 2027 elections.
The unanimous endorsement was reached during a meeting of critical stakeholders from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, according to a statement by Jackson Udom, Special Assistant on Media to the Senate President.
The communique, read by Hon. Unyime Idem, said the decision followed an assessment of the performance of the three leaders and the need for continuity. It was adopted after a motion by Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien and seconded by Hon. Iboro Ekanem.
“Accordingly, the meeting endorsed: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for another term as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2027 Presidential Election. Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, for another term as Senator representing Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District and Governor Umo Bassey Eno, for another term as Governor of Akwa Ibom State,” the communique read.
Senator Akpabio, who responded on behalf of the endorsed leaders, said the development reflected the peaceful political atmosphere in Akwa Ibom.
“We are very happy for this grand endorsement of Mr President, myself and our governor. It shows that there is unity in this state, particularly in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District,” he said.
He also called for continued peaceful coexistence, noting the presence of PDP State Chairman Hon. Aniekan Akpan and some opposition candidates at the meeting. “Whoever we have wronged in the course of our politicking let us forgive and forget so that we can move in one direction and voice during the electioneering and voting,” he added.
Other stakeholders present, including Don Etiebet, DIG Udom Ekpoudom rtd, Senators Aloysius Etuk and Chris Ekpenyong, assured of total support and mobilization for the re-election of Tinubu, Akpabio and Eno in 2027.
