President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has assured Nigerians that the commencement of 2027 electioneering will not affect the legislative duties of members of the National Assembly.
Akpabio gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen at the Presidential wing of the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, after convening a meeting of APC Critical Stakeholders in Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District.
At the meeting, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno received unanimous endorsement for their return bids to their respective offices in 2027.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said electioneering and legislative responsibilities are separate and cannot interfere with each other.
“We are elected for four years and we are going to work for four years. Campaigns can be fixed in the afternoons or evenings while we do our work in the mornings. Anybody that is walking on the tiny rope must be able to do the balancing act,” he said.
The Senate President added that because lawmakers belong to different political parties, campaigns will not happen simultaneously for everyone, stressing that “Nothing will affect legislation. We will continue to make laws to take care of the needs of the people.”
