After six decades on the throne, the story of a remarkable monarch is coming to the screen, and the celebration will be worthy of the legend.
After months of painstaking research, conversations, travels and filming across Nigeria, Igwe Orizu III: The Centenary Monarch is set for its official premiere at the Igwe Nnewi Palace on October 30, 2026, marking the 101st birthday of His Majesty, Igwe Kenneth Onyemaeke Orizu III.
But this is not merely a film premiere.
It is a historic celebration of a remarkable life, an extraordinary reign and a legacy that has shaped generations.
The two-day celebration will commence on October 29, 2026, with the inaugural Igwe Orizu III International Lecture on African Traditional Leadership, Culture and Development. The lecture will provide a distinguished platform for reflections on traditional institutions, African heritage, leadership and the evolving role of the traditional ruler in modern society.
The following day, October 30 — His Majesty’s 101st birthday — will witness the much-anticipated premiere of Igwe Orizu III: The Centenary Monarch, alongside the unveiling of new legacy initiatives dedicated to preserving and extending the impact of His Majesty’s remarkable journey.
For more than six decades, Igwe Orizu III has devoted his life to the leadership, unity, progress and service of his people. His reign stands as a significant chapter in the history of Nnewi and in the continuing story of African traditional leadership.
The documentary is therefore more than a record of events. It is an attempt to capture memories, experiences, conversations and moments that illuminate the man behind the crown and preserve his story for generations yet unborn.
The celebration is also an invitation — to individuals, institutions, organisations, partners and friends of Nnewi and African heritage, to become part of a moment that transcends one man, one palace and one community.
As the camera journey that began months ago reaches its defining moment, the focus now shifts from documenting history to celebrating legacy.
It is a rare occasion to gather, reflect and honour a monarch whose life has become intertwined with the history, identity and aspirations of his people.
