Hon. Ishaku Tanko Yamawo, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has called on the Igbo community, popularly known as Ndigbo, to remain united and support the party’s candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Yamawo made the call on Sunday when the APC FCT Senatorial Candidate, Distinguished Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, visited Ndigbo at the palace of Dr. Uche Egenti, the Onyendu Ndigbo in the FCT, as part of ongoing political consultations.
The APC chairman appealed to Ndigbo in the FCT to work collectively and support Aduda, as well as other APC candidates contesting for seats in the House of Representatives across the territory.
Yamawo, while appreciating the Igbo community for its support and contributions to the political development of the FCT, said he had maintained a longstanding relationship with Ndigbo and had worked closely with members of the community over the years.
He recalled his early political association with Chief Olisa Uzowulu, popularly known as “The Wulus,” noting that the relationship played a significant role in his political journey.
According to him, his association with Uzowulu and other members of the Igbo community contributed to the support that enabled him to emerge as a councillor representing his ward.
The APC FCT chairman said the experience had strengthened his belief in the importance of cooperation, unity and mutual support among the various ethnic groups that make up the FCT.
He therefore urged Ndigbo to sustain their unity and continue to engage constructively with the APC leadership, particularly Senator Aduda and the party’s House of Representatives candidates.
Yamawo stressed that Ndigbo constitute a significant and highly populated community in the FCT, adding that their numerical strength, organisation and political participation could make a meaningful difference in the electoral process.
He assured the community of the APC’s commitment to inclusiveness and called for stronger collaboration between Ndigbo and the party as preparations for the elections gather momentum.
Yamawo said a united Ndigbo working together with the APC candidates would not only strengthen their political voice but also contribute to the overall development and progress of the FCT.
