The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has taken its passport intervention campaign to four countries, enrolling 8,552 Nigerians in the United States, Canada, Qatar and the United Kingdom as part of a drive to make passport services more accessible to citizens in the diaspora.
The latest figures released by the Service show that the United Kingdom alone accounts for 5,099 enrolments, making it the largest beneficiary of the ongoing intervention exercise.
The exercise, which is being implemented under the directive of the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, is aimed at taking passport services closer to Nigerians across different cities.
According to a Monday statement signed electronically by NIS Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the intervention exercises were organised in collaboration with Nigerian diplomatic missions and representatives of Nigerian communities in the respective countries.
In the United States, 535 Nigerians were enrolled in Chicago, Michigan and Milwaukee between September 7 and 15, 2026.
Canada recorded 2,257 enrolments between September 6 and 19 in Manitoba, Toronto, Saskatoon, Alberta and New Brunswick, while 751 Nigerians were enrolled during the Qatar exercise held between August 9 and 24.
The UK exercise in London and Manchester remains ongoing and has so far produced 5,099 enrolments.
The NIS said passport production and dispatch are taking place simultaneously in the UK, indicating that processing is continuing alongside the enrolment exercise.
For Nigerians who could not obtain appointment slots, or those who would rather avoid physical visits to passport centres or the High Commission, the Service advised them to take advantage of the Contactless Passport Application System.
The Immigration Service said the intervention exercises reflect its commitment to responsive and accessible passport services and to providing Nigerians in the diaspora with a more timely and convenient application process.
