The Executive Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) FCT, Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to national unity, selfless service, accountability and sustainable development.
Maikalangu made the call in his goodwill message to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a press statement e-signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Kingsley Madaki, on Thursday, the AMAC Chairman said the anniversary provides an opportunity to celebrate the nation’s journey while reflecting on the resilience, courage and determination of its people.
According to him, independence is not only a celebration of freedom but also a reminder that leadership is a sacred responsibility.
“Independence reminds us that leadership is a sacred responsibility. It calls on those entrusted with public office to put service before self, accountability before privilege, and the welfare of the people at the heart of governance,” he said.
Maikalangu emphasised the need to strengthen inclusive governance at the grassroots, support communities, invest in human capital, improve infrastructure and empower young people and women.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the people of AMAC and stakeholders to promote peace, unity, development and responsive governance.
He urged Nigerians to continue believing in the country, protecting its unity and contributing to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
“Let us continue to believe in Nigeria, protect our unity, and play our part in building a stronger and more prosperous nation for present and future generations,” he added.
“May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May God bless the people of AMAC. Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!”
