Here, Ekuson Nw’Ogbunka, Our Managing Editor, writes from Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that barely 24 hours after taking the oath of office for a second term as Mayor of Orumba South Local Government Area, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike turned his attention to one of the critical pillars of community development, the youths of Umunze.
At his country home, the Mayor hosted vibrant youths of Umunze in a meeting that provided an opportunity to appreciate their support and solidarity while also setting the tone for continued partnership in the task of developing the community.
Azubuike expressed gratitude to the youths for the confidence they have continued to demonstrate in his administration, acknowledging their role in supporting programmes, projects and development initiatives across Umunze and Orumba South.
But beyond appreciation, the gathering carried a message of unity.
The Mayor urged the youths to remain steadfast in promoting peace and to resist any act, utterance or conduct capable of creating division or crisis within the community.
“Umunze is one, and nothing should separate us,” he stressed, underscoring the need for collective responsibility in preserving the peace and cohesion of the community.
For Azubuike, the development of Umunze cannot be separated from the unity of its people. He therefore encouraged the youths to channel their energy towards initiatives that would strengthen the community and create opportunities for its people.
He also called on the youths to support the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging progressives at different levels to continue working together towards sustainable development.
The Mayor said his administration would continue to work with the youths and other well-meaning sons and daughters of Umunze in pursuit of a more peaceful, united and prosperous community.
As he begins his second tenure, the engagement with the youths signals Azubuike’s intention to maintain community-based interaction while seeking their cooperation in advancing his development agenda for Umunze and Orumba South.
For a community whose future depends significantly on the energy, creativity and participation of its younger generation, the Mayor’s message was clear: unity must remain the foundation upon which development is built.
