The President of the Senate, Godswill Obot Akpabio, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the revered elder statesman and National Leader of Afenifere, who died at the age of 100, according to a press statement from Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Office of the President of the Senate on Wednesday.
Akpabio described Fasoranti’s death as a monumental loss to his immediate family, the Yoruba nation and Nigeria, noting that the deceased belonged to a distinguished generation of Nigerians whose lives were defined by service, courage and commitment to the common good.
In a condolence statement issued through the Office of the President of the Senate, Akpabio said Fasoranti’s remarkable 100-year life was characterised by integrity, selflessness and devotion to public service.
He noted that the late Afenifere leader made significant contributions to Nigeria’s sociopolitical development, democratic governance and the pursuit of justice, adding that his influence transcended ethnic and political boundaries.
According to the Senate President, Fasoranti’s life demonstrated that genuine leadership is measured not by positions held but by the values upheld, the people served and the positive impact made on society.
“Though he has departed, the principles he stood for and the example he set will continue to inspire generations of Nigerians,” Akpabio said.
The Senate President extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, Afenifere leadership and members, the people of Akure, the Ondo State Government and the entire Yoruba nation. He prayed that God would grant the bereaved family the strength to bear the loss and give the departed elder statesman eternal rest.
