Chief Uche Okei, Vice President of Ohaneze Ndigbo in the 19 Northern States and the FCT, has given a strong endorsement of Hon. Chinedu Obika, the lawmaker representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
Speaking in an exclusive assessment, Chief Okei scored Hon. Obika “up to 85%” for his legislative performance in the National Assembly, noting that the lawmaker’s motions have been particularly favourable to the Original Inhabitants of the FCT.
According to the Ohaneze leader, stakeholders in both AMAC and Bwari, including traditional rulers, expressed surprise at the scale of Obika’s constituency interventions. “They said they never knew a House of Representatives member could distribute cars to all the traditional rulers in the constituency,” Okei stated.
He further cited the lawmaker’s education support scheme, which he said covers tuition and accommodation for students, alongside scholarships for study abroad. “Even scholarship to school outside the country too,” Okei added.
On Obika’s re-election prospects, Chief Okei was upbeat. “If all things remain equal, he has a 70% chance of being re-elected,” he said, adding that the lawmaker’s record would “speak for him.”
The assessment, he explained, followed visits by members of the Ikenga Ndigbo Progressive Union Worldwide to stakeholders and traditional rulers across the constituency. Feedback from those engagements, he said, informed his verdict.
Drawing comparisons with past representatives, Okei argued that Obika stands out. He recalled working closely with former Rep. Prince Ukachukwu, who “never moved any motion, talk less of giving scholarships or buying cars for traditional rulers,” and said he was largely focused on personal business while in office.
Rounding off his remarks, Chief Okei advised the lawmaker to deepen grassroots engagement. “I will advise him to have a proper tour and visitation to his various wards by making out time for physical interaction with his constituents,” he said. “He should have a proper interface with his ward members.”
