The work done in Kagini, a community in AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency by Hon Chinedu Obika has not only made the bridge passable, but also open, ending years of danger posed by the open canal that split the community every rainy season, according to a press release from Emenike Egwusunwa, the Senior Special Adviser to the Legislator on Media and Publications over the weekend.
He said: “For residents of Kagini in AMAC/Bwari, the crossing had become a hazard that threatened lives and disrupted daily activity. Children from JSS Kagini risked being swept away on their way to class, traders could not move goods across the waterway, and elders found it unsafe to cross.
“The intervention was delivered by Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. With the bridge completed, what residents once called a “deadly canal” is now a safe crossing.
The change is already visible on the ground. Students of JSS Kagini now use a secure path to school without wading through floodwater or missing classes. Traders, farmers, and residents say movement of goods and services has resumed, reconnecting the community and reopening Kagini for business.
Community leaders say the project resolves a long-standing request. The District Head of Kagini Jiwa Chiefdom, Alhaji Ayuba Barau, confirmed the bridge addressed one of the community’s oldest grievances.”
Welcoming the development in a statement, the community leaders, according to him had this to say: “For years, this canal posed a deadly threat to our pupils and the community. We are grateful to Hon. Obika for coming to our rescue when it mattered most.”
Supporters, he went on describe the project as “proven representation,” noting that Obika visited the area, listened to residents, and acted. “This isn’t a poster project. A leader who listens, goes to the community, and acts,” one message stated.
Hon. Cornel Max-Nduaguibe, Convener of Capacity Builders for Good Governance and NDC Stakeholder for Gwarinpa Ward, congratulated the people of Kagini. “From peril to progress. That’s transformational leadership. 4+4 to Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, AMAC/Bwari is moving forward,” he said.
