Senator Ahmed Wadada, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts and representative of Nasarawa West Senatorial District, has emerged as the winner of the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Nasarawa State, according to NAN on Friday. The victory positions him as the party’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Prof. Theodore Maiyaki, announced the result on Friday in Lafia. He said the primary was conducted across the 147 electoral wards in the state’s 13 local government areas, with party members casting votes to select their preferred aspirant.
According to Maiyaki, Wadada secured 195,285 votes, the highest in the contest, defeating six other aspirants. The margin placed him well ahead of the rest of the field and confirmed strong support for his candidacy within the party structure.
Former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu came second with 39,675 votes. Prof. Mohamed Sani-Haruna polled 5,844 votes, while Dr. Hassan Liman garnered 863 votes. Dr. Zakka Yakubu and Dr. Fatima Abdullahi-Adamu received 336 and 246 votes respectively, and Tanimu Adabson recorded 65 votes.
Maiyaki stated that the committee closely monitored the accreditation process and ensured transparency during the collation of results. He said measures were put in place to uphold the integrity of the exercise and give all aspirants a fair hearing.
The committee chairman added that the conduct of the primary adhered to the provisions of the APC constitution and electoral guidelines. He noted that no major disruption was recorded during voting and collation across the state.
Having met all constitutional and procedural requirements, Maiyaki declared Wadada duly elected as the APC governorship candidate for Nasarawa State in 2027. He congratulated the winner and urged all aspirants to unite behind the party’s choice ahead of the general election.
The result sets the stage for the APC’s campaign in Nasarawa State, with Wadada expected to lead the party’s push to retain the governorship. Party officials expressed confidence that the outcome would strengthen internal cohesion and improve the APC’s chances in 2027.
