Senator Tony Nwoye has secured the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket to contest for the Anambra North Senatorial District in the 2027 general election. The former lawmaker emerged through a consensus arrangement after party stakeholders and aspirants in the zone rallied behind him.
The consensus process, held in Onitsha, on Friday was attended by NDC leaders, delegates, and aspirants from the seven local government areas that make up Anambra North. Party officials described the exercise as peaceful and transparent, noting that it was aimed at strengthening unity within the party ahead of the polls.
Nwoye who is currently representing the senatorial district in the 10th Senate, previously represented Anambra East/West/Oyi/Anambra West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. He thanked the aspirants for stepping down in his favour and the party leadership for the confidence reposed in him. He said the overwhelming support shows that the people of Anambra North are ready for experienced and purposeful representation.
In his acceptance remarks, Nwoye pledged to prioritize security, youth empowerment, agricultural development, and infrastructure if elected. He stressed that the senatorial district needs strong legislative advocacy to attract federal presence and improve the living standards of constituents.
NDC stakeholders in Anambra North described Nwoye’s emergence as timely, citing his legislative experience, grassroots connection, and track record of constituency interventions. They expressed optimism that the party will reclaim the seat in 2027 with him as its flagbearer.
With the ticket now secured, Senator Tony Nwoye is expected to begin grassroots mobilization across Omambala and other parts of Anambra North. Party members say his candidacy will reposition the NDC as a competitive force in the zone and give voters a credible alternative in the coming election.
