The Comptroller-General of Immigration, CGI Kemi Nanna Nandap, has charged 73 newly inducted Public Relations Officers (PROs) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, according to a press release, e-signed by DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, Service PRO, NIS, Abuja, Saturday
The charge was delivered on Saturday at the Service Headquarters, Abuja, by Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) Visa and Residency, FU Nwanneka, who represented the CGI at the induction of 73 NIS PROs by the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) on Saturday.
In fulfillment of its commitment to institutionalizing strategic communication, the 73 officers were inducted into the professional ranks of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. This marks a major step in professionalizing the Service’s PR cadre.
DCG Nwanneka told the inductees that professionalism must guide every aspect of their work. She said the credibility of the Service now depends largely on how well its communicators engage the public.
She tasked them to proactively manage public perception and strengthen public trust* as the Service drives technology-enabled reforms in Migration Management and Border Governance.
The CGI, through her representative, commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations for its collaboration* to deepen and standardize the practice of Public Relations within the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The President and Chairman of Council of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, fnipr, formally inducted the participants into the Institute. He described the exercise as a landmark for both NIS and NIPR.
In his address, Dr. Neliaku enjoined the new members to uphold ethics, professionalism, and lifelong learning as core values of the Public Relations profession.
Delivering closing remarks, the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, anipr, noted the CGI’s unwavering commitment to capacity building. He said the leadership is determined to standardize PR practice across all NIS formations and commands.
DCI Akinlabi expressed appreciation to NIPR, resource persons, and all stakeholders whose support made the programme a success. He urged the PROs to translate the knowledge gained into practical action to reinforce the Service’s commitment to effective public engagement.
