Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan has announced two major interventions to support his constituents in Yobe North Senatorial District. The moves cover disaster relief and education sponsorship.
The announcement was made available to the public through a press release e-signed by Ezrel Tabiowo, his Media Adviser on Saturday. It detailed both the emergency fund and the education initiative.
To cushion the effects of the recent windstorms that devastated communities, Senator Lawan announced a personal donation of N50 million. The storm affected three Local Government Areas in his Senatorial District.
He expressed deep sadness over the scale of destruction witnessed in Bade, Nguru and Karasuwa local government areas. Many homes, farms and public infrastructure were damaged.
According to the breakdown provided, Bade Local Government is to receive N20,000,000, Nguru Local Government N20,000,000, and Karasuwa Local Government N10,000,000. The funds are meant to provide immediate, direct relief.
The lawmaker stated that the money will go directly to victims to help them recover quickly. He said the gesture is a demonstration of solidarity with those affected.
He added that his team has been directed to work closely with the respective Local Government councils, traditional institutions, and emergency management committees. This is to ensure the resources reach those who need them most without delay.
Lawan further disclosed that he is engaging with the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and the Yobe State Government. The engagement is to mobilize wider relief materials and reconstruction support to complement his personal efforts.
“To the bereaved and the displaced, I assure you that you remain in our constant prayers,” Lawan said. He promised that government and private support will be scaled up.
“I am also engaging with NEMA and the State Government to ensure that wider relief materials and reconstruction support are mobilized to complement these personal efforts,” he added.
In another move to expand educational access in Yobe State, Senator Lawan’s foundation, the Senator Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, SAIL Foundation, officially launched a fully funded intervention. It is targeted at returning out-of-school children to the classroom.
The initiative is tagged “Second Chance: A SAIL Foundation Education Development Initiative,” and was announced by the former Senate President on Sunday. It focuses on secondary school students.
The programme targets 1,178 carefully selected beneficiaries drawn from 17 secondary schools across Nguru Local Government Area in the Yobe North Senatorial District. The selection prioritized the most vulnerable students.
Senator Lawan stated that the comprehensive sponsorship package covers the entire duration of the beneficiaries’ secondary education. Parents will not bear school fees until graduation.
Beyond school fees, the foundation will provide essential educational materials including school bags, textbooks, uniforms, and sandals. The goal is to ensure the students are fully equipped.
“Education remains the most enduring investment we can make in our youth,” Senator Lawan said. He described education as the foundation for lasting development.
“I have never wavered in the conviction that no child should be left behind because of his or her circumstance,” he stressed. He said the foundation will continue to bridge gaps.
To ensure a seamless academic session, the measurement and fitting exercise for school uniforms and sandals is scheduled to commence on Monday, 27 July 2026, at 8:00 a.m. prompt. The venue is Galadima Maidunoma Mega School, Nguru Local Government, opposite Zangon Shanu.
The organizing committee, chaired by Comrade Bashir Sharif Tahir, SAIL Coordinator for Nguru, will oversee the coordination of beneficiaries from the 17 participating schools. Senator Lawan urged parents, guardians, and school proprietors to ensure punctual attendance for a well-organized exercise.
