Senate President Godswill Akpabio has described the late Hon. Imo Akpan Ibokette as a patriot and selfless leader whose death is a personal loss to him.
Akpabio spoke on Friday at the funeral service for the former Majority Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly held at Abak International Nursery/Primary School, Abak LGA.
The service was conducted by the Apostolic Church Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said the late lawmaker was the first to call him to celebrate the passage of the bill establishing the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology in Obio Akpa.
“Late Ibokette we are laying to rest today was the first to call and thank me on hearing of the passage of the bill establishing the University,” Akpabio said.
He used the occasion to thank President Bola Tinubu for signing the bill and Governor Umo Eno for releasing the Obio Akpa campus of Akwa Ibom State University for the institution’s take-off.
“I look forward to the admission of the first batch of students into the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology in this Senatorial District,” the Senate President added.
Akpabio described Ibokette as a loving father and hardworking personality who “did his best and witnessed the uncommon transformation which he fought and worked for before his departure.”
