Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has assured residents of the territory that the Apo-Karshi road project will be completed before the end of the year, according to a press release Rabi Musa Umar, Deputy Director, Press (Office of the Honourable Minister) Wednesday.

The Minister disclosed this while addressing journalists shortly after inspecting the Karu town, Apo-Karshi, and Gbazan-Kubwa road projects on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

Barr Wike said residents have long awaited the completion of the Apo-Karshi road, which is being handled by SCC.  Describing the road as critical, the Minister expressed confidence in the ability of the contractor to deliver a quality work, within the agreed timeframe.

Recall that the 13.4 kilimetre road was initially awarded to Kakatar Engineering limited in 2011, to create an alternative route between Apo and Karshi and ease traffic from the Nyanya axis of the FCT, but was abandoned until Barr. Wike terminated the previous contract and re-awarded it to SCC in late 2025.

On the Karu town and Gbazango-Kubwa road projects, the Minister expressed satisfaction, commending the contractors, Abdul-Val Nigeria Limited and Zeberced, for the pace and quality of work.

He praised Abdul Val Nigeria limited (a local contractor) for the quality of work on the Karu road project, noting that the company had delivered the Ushafa road project which was commissioned last year by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at his second year anniversary.

“I’m quite impressed. This is the second time. If you remember, the Ushafa road commissioned last year was also carried out by Abdul Val, and they are doing the one in Karu now. They are doing a good quality job”, he stated, adding that the Karu town roads, along with the Gbazango-Kubwa road were among projects earmarked for inauguration during President Tinubu’s third anniversary celebration.

Speaking about the Gbazango road by Zeberced, the Minister said, “If you remember, this company handled the A2 to Pai road commissioned by Mr. President last year. They are also handling the Gomani to Yangoji road, which will also be inaugurated during the third anniversary.

“You can see the quality of work. You can see how happy the residents are seeing us here. Without invitation, they came out to appreciate the fact that they can now see governance in action. One thing is that you may be doing a quality job, and other thing is the timing”, he said.

Barr Wike generally expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the contractors, and noted that with their ability to complete projects on time, the third anniversary will be filled with a lot of commissioning activities.

“So, I am very happy. I am very happy. I think it will be full of activities, this third-year anniversary of Mr. President”, he said.

Responding to a question on his visit to the National Chairman of the All Peoples Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Mr Wike, said it was on a personal note, reiterating his rights to freedom of association. He further pointed out that he had known Prof Yilwatda as a fellow Federal Minister before he became Chairman of his party, and so they had been colleagues.

He also took a swipe at critics who had previously questioned him for receiving the former chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Abure, in his residence, saying, “I don’t play politics of enmity”.
