The Northern Senators Forum (NSF) has mourned the death of former Katsina South Senator, Distinguished Senator Bello Mandiya, describing his passing at 62 as a painful loss to Katsina State and Nigeria.
The forum, in a condolence message signed by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, said Mandiya’s death had deprived the nation of a committed public servant and legislator whose contributions would continue to be remembered.
Mandiya represented Katsina South Senatorial District in the Ninth National Assembly after winning election to the Senate in 2019. Prior to his emergence as a senator, he served as Chief of Staff to former Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari.
According to the NSM, Mandiya’s political career was characterised by loyalty, political maturity, patience and dedication to public service. It described him as a team player who valued consultation, dialogue and consensus-building across political divides.
The forum also commended his performance in the Ninth Senate, where he was said to have distinguished himself as a diligent legislator and dependable colleague. His commitment to cooperation among senators and support for policies promoting national development were particularly highlighted.
The late senator was also remembered for his belief in the unity, stability and progress of Nigeria. The forum said he understood public office as a responsibility to improve the lives of citizens and served with that conviction.
While extending condolences to his family, the Katsina State Government and people, Katsina South, political associates and former National Assembly colleagues, the NSF prayed for the repose of his soul.
It asked Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds and grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, while giving his loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.
