Comrade Abiodun Maxwell has described Hon. Chinedu Joshua Obika as a key grassroots legislator who has responded directly to the yearnings of AMAC and Bwari constituents in the Federal Capital Territory.
Maxwell noted that while the FCT Minister functions as the central authority in the absence of an elected governor, effective governance still depends on visible local representation. He said Obika has filled that gap for the All Progressives Congress within the territory.
The political and civil society activist said this in a statement bhe posted in the Hon Chinedu Obika Whassapp group on Wednesday.
According to him, Obika has emerged as the party’s strongest grassroots figure at a time when APC’s presence in the FCT was declining. His involvement ahead of the last council elections brought renewed mobilization and increased public acceptance for the party.
Before Obika’s entry, APC structures in the FCT were weak and had limited connection with communities. Maxwell said the party’s visibility and appeal improved significantly following his active engagement with residents.
He attributed the shift to Obika’s inclusive leadership approach, which has extended empowerment and development opportunities across age groups, ethnicities, and political affiliations. Both indigenous and non-indigenous residents have benefited from the outreach.
Maxwell added that Obika’s politics has focused on unity rather than division, strengthening community bonds and building trust in leadership. This, he said, has positioned Obika as a symbol of hope for many at the grassroots level.
Looking ahead to the next political cycle, Maxwell argued that a second tenure for Obika is necessary to sustain the momentum. He said continuity would consolidate recent gains and prevent the loss of APC’s growing acceptance among constituents.
He concluded that Obika serves as the bridge between federal policies and local realities, making him essential to APC’s prospects of securing lasting support in the FCT.
