History will be made on Monday, 18th May 2026, as delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North head to the polls to choose the party’s senatorial candidate. The contest is being framed as a choice between continuing with an incumbent who has delivered visible results and returning to a cycle of unfulfilled promises.
Senator (Prince) Ned Munir Nwoko is seeking a second term on the strength of what supporters describe as impactful representation since his election. In just three years, he has positioned himself as the Voice of Anioma, combining legislative activity with grassroots development across the nine local government areas.
Nwoko’s record in the 10th Senate includes sponsoring over 31 bills and moving more than 20 motions, placing him among the most active members of the chamber. The interventions span education, youth empowerment, healthcare, infrastructure, and governance reforms.
A major focus of his tenure has been the push for the creation of Anioma State. He sponsored the Constitutional Alteration Bill for the new state, which has made significant progress in the National Assembly. Traditional rulers, stakeholders, and political leaders in the district have endorsed his candidacy largely because of this initiative.
On power and infrastructure, the senator has pressed for the completion of the Okpai Independent Power Project step-down to bring stable electricity to Ndokwa and surrounding areas. He has also championed the Ogwashi-Uku Earth Dam project, which is intended to support water supply, agriculture, and economic growth. Both projects are now firmly on the federal agenda following his advocacy.
In education, Nwoko has sponsored thousands of JAMB forms and renovated classroom blocks, including at Ika Grammar School. He has also pushed bills for the upgrade of Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic to the Federal University of Technology, the establishment of the Federal University of Technology Asaba, and the creation of the Federal College of Education Akwukwu-Igbo. Through his scholarship programme, 90 students from Delta North, 10 from each LGA, are studying on full scholarships at the Sports University of Nigeria in Idumuje-Ugboko, with additional support extended to students in other universities.
Healthcare has also featured prominently, with free medical outreaches conducted across all nine LGAs and ongoing efforts toward malaria eradication. Several bills aimed at improving access to healthcare have been introduced under his sponsorship.
Youth and women empowerment form another plank of his work. Skills training, entrepreneurship grants, mentorship programmes, and agricultural support have been rolled out as part of efforts to expand economic opportunities in the district.
Supporters argue that Nwoko’s alignment with the APC Renewed Hope agenda has helped bring federal attention and projects to Delta North at a scale not seen before. They say re-electing him will consolidate ongoing projects, advance the Anioma State agenda, and attract further development.
On Monday, delegates are being urged to turn out in large numbers and vote overwhelmingly for the senator. The message from the campaign is clear: continuity, progress, and development for Delta North and Anioma under the APC banner.
