Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin, has celebrated First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu as she clocks 66, highlighting her long-standing involvement in public service and initiatives targeted at improving the lives of Nigerians.
In a birthday message issued on September 20, 2026, by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Barau described the First Lady’s contributions to national development and democratic governance as “significant and enduring.”
The Kano lawmaker, who doubles as First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, pointed to the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) as a major avenue through which Oluremi Tinubu has continued to address social challenges confronting Nigerians.
He said the initiative has focused attention on areas including education, healthcare, social welfare, women and youth empowerment, and assistance to vulnerable Nigerians.
Barau noted that the First Lady’s record of public service did not begin with her present position.
He recalled her years as First Lady of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, when she established the New Era Foundation to support women, children and young people.
He also recalled her 12-year tenure in the Senate, where she represented Lagos Central Senatorial District from 2011 to 2023 and participated in legislative activities and Senate committees dealing with national issues.
“Her commitment to nation-building, however, predates her role as First Lady,” Barau said, while reflecting on her previous public service roles.
The Deputy Senate President prayed that God would grant the First Lady more years in good health, wisdom, strength and fulfilment.
He also expressed the hope that she would continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in advancing peace, stability and sustainable development in Nigeria.
