The Northern Senators Forum on Wednesday condemned the recent terrorist attack in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State which led to the mass abduction of worshippers at Kpenya Mosque.
The Senators said the Friday attack, carried out after Jumat prayers, also affected residents of Gidan-Zana and Kpenya villages in Dekara District and was a direct attack on innocent citizens.
In a statement by its Chairman, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, the Forum described the incident as “baric and unacceptable” and called for urgent action from security agencies.
“Reports of landmines being planted and further abductions to serve as bargaining chips are deeply troubling. We cannot allow terrorists to dictate the lives of our people,” the Senators stated.
They urged the Armed Forces, Nigeria Police, DSS and other security outfits to step up rescue operations and secure the immediate release of all those abducted.
The Forum also demanded urgent humanitarian assistance, medical support and additional security deployment to Borgu LGA and other vulnerable border communities in Niger State.
The Senators stressed the need for a comprehensive review of the security architecture in Niger State and the entire North Central zone to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
“We stand in full solidarity with the people of Niger State and remain committed to working with the Presidency and state governments to restore peace, protect lives, and uphold the dignity of our people,” the statement concluded.
