The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), has reinforced its commitment to measurable economic outcomes with the signing of the 2026 Strategic Performance Contract.
The contracts were executed between the Honourable Ministers and Chief Executives of agencies under the Ministry, and between the Permanent Secretary and Directors, according to a press release from Obilor-Duru Augustina Okechi, Head, Press and Public Relations, FMITI.
The milestone was reached at the conclusion of FMITI’s 2026 Top Management Retreat held recently in Abuja. Senior management, agency heads, development partners and key stakeholders met under the theme: “From Policy to Performance: Driving Industrial Growth, Trade Expansion and Investment Outcomes.”
Closing the two-day retreat, the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, commended the Permanent Secretary, Directors, Heads of Agencies, development partners and participants for their commitment and engagement. She described the retreat as a critical platform for strategic reflection, collaboration and alignment.
Dr. Oduwole stressed that FMITI’s mandate remains central to economic transformation, job creation and improved livelihoods for Nigerians. She said the Ministry must move beyond policy statements to deliver tangible impact in factories, markets and communities.
The Minister emphasized that the 2026 Strategic Performance Contract signifies a collective commitment to accountability and results-driven governance. She said it will guide priority initiatives to strengthen industrial development, boost trade competitiveness and enhance investment inflows.
Dr. Oduwole reiterated that FMITI will translate policy into outcomes through stronger coordination, effective programme implementation and deeper collaboration with public and private sector stakeholders. The goal, she noted, is to ensure that plans become projects and projects become jobs.
The Honourable Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan-Enoh, said the success of Nigeria’s industrial agenda will be seen in increased productivity, stronger local industries, sustainable export growth and greater investor confidence. He called for deliberate action to make Nigerian goods more competitive.
Permanent Secretary, Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu, urged departments and agencies to align programmes, budgets and performance targets with national development priorities. He listed accountability, effective monitoring and continuous performance improvement as essential drivers of success for 2026.
The Director of Policy, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs. Iya Ibrahim Gamawa, highlighted the importance of strategic alignment, performance management and results-based implementation. She said these tools are critical to achieving FMITI’s objectives and delivering value to citizens.
A major outcome was the adoption of a retreat communiqué outlining key priorities, implementation strategies and performance commitments for 2026. Development partners, including UNIDO, and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Industry, pledged support. Participants reaffirmed targets for increased investments, new factories, expanded exports, job creation and greater value retention. The retreat ended with a renewed resolve to advance President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and position FMITI as a driver of sustainable, inclusive economic growth.
