Abuja Municipal Area Council is entering a new phase of governance. Executive Chairman Hon. Christopher Zakka Maikalangu has secured a double endorsement: re-election as AMAC Chairman and emergence as Chairman of ALGON FCT Chapter. Within days, he reshuffled his cabinet, inaugurated new appointees, and set a strict “no desk officer” performance code. On behalf of the National Executive Council and members of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria nationwide, ALGON National President Hon. Engr. Bello Lawal extended warm congratulations to Maikalangu on his re-election as AMAC Chairman and subsequent election as ALGON FCT Chapter Chairman.
Lawal said the re-election is a clear testament to the confidence reposed in Maikalangu’s leadership, his unwavering commitment to grassroots development, and dedication to the welfare of the people he serves.
He noted that Maikalangu’s emergence as ALGON FCT Chairman reflects the deep trust and respect earned among colleagues within the local government system across the territory.
The ALGON national leadership assured Maikalangu of full support and cooperation, expressing readiness to work closely with him to promote good governance, sustainable development, and advancement of local government administration across Nigeria.
While celebrating the mandate, Maikalangu’s office moved quickly to correct an administrative error in an earlier appointment announcement. A press release signed by Kingsley Madaki on 16/6/2026 clarified that Mr. Kelechi Steve Chibueze is Special Adviser on Transport only, not any other designation previously attached.
The release also restated that all administrative duties, decisions and oversight regarding Chieftaincy and Traditional Matters remain strictly under the coordination of the Council Secretary, as directed by the Executive Chairman.
In a separate release, Maikalangu approved new key appointments and portfolios effective immediately: Hon. Emmanuel Inyang as Chairman, AMAC Revenue Taskforce; Hon. Bako Kamdu as Deputy Chairman; John Jezhi as Clerk, AMAC Legislative; Hon. Isyaku Hassan as Deputy Clerk; and Hon. Ikibah Tonye Sebastian as Legislative Liaison Officer.
The Chairman congratulated the new appointees and charged them to discharge duties with professionalism, integrity and dedication to service of AMAC residents.
On Wednesday, Maikalangu inaugurated newly appointed Supervisory Councillors, Special Advisers, Chief of Staff, Principal Private Secretary and Chief Press Secretary, telling them their tenure will be based strictly on performance and measurable deliverables.
He said the appointees were selected from thousands of party faithful who worked during the election cycle, and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them because “public service is a privilege, not a permanent entitlement.”
The Chairman handed down marching orders: Agriculture must distribute fertilizers, establish AMAC Farm, secure grants and position the council for export; Education must pursue international scholarships and foreign aid for primary schools; Health must inspect PHCs for upgrades and court donors.
Special Adviser on Transport was mandated to procure transit buses to cushion transport costs and roll out measures to curb “one-chance” criminal syndicates threatening commuters.
To streamline governance, Maikalangu set communication boundaries: “Do not bring unnecessary tension to my office. You were appointed to solve problems and reduce pressure on leadership, not add to it. All official reports must go strictly through the Chief of Staff or Principal Private Secretary.”
Former AMAC Chairman and ex-House of Reps member Hon. Micah Jiba advised appointees to prioritize loyalty and humility, reminding them that local government is the tier closest to the people. Ex-Chairman Hon. Abdullahi Adamu Candido urged them to work harmoniously with career civil servants and focus on sustainable policies.
The AMAC In Safe Hands Group, through Comrade Abdulwahab Ekekhide, commended Maikalangu for appointments reflecting national unity and federal character, with representation across geopolitical zones to ensure every tribe and region feels belonging.
The group charged appointees to see selection as a call to service, not reward, and urged party faithful to remain patient and united, noting that governance is collective and more opportunities will open as the administration progresses.
