Abuja

Ndigbo residing in Idu, the host community of the Idu Industrial Area in the Federal Capital Territory FCT), are set to converge at Maryland Hotel on Sunday for a unity gathering aimed at reviving their community association. The meeting, announced in churches and other public spaces, is being organized by Chief Peter Nnaji, CEO of Maryland Hotel and Afunwa Echetanna of Ndiagu Obuno, Akpugo Nkanu in Enugu State.

Speaking to journalists, Chief Nnaji expressed concern that Ndigbo in the area had not held union meetings for a long time, a situation he described as unacceptable for one of Nigeria’s leading ethnic groups. He said consultations with members showed a strong desire to reactivate the association and foster solidarity among the Igbo population in Idu.

Nnaji also pledged to work toward promoting peace and unity among members, noting that arrangements were already in place to restore peace and ensure a smooth reunion. He stressed that unity was critical for Ndigbo to speak with one voice and address issues affecting their welfare in the FCT.

Chairlady of the women’s wing and proprietor of Nobis is Clinic, Idu, Mrs. Veronica Ugochukwu, commended Nnaji for his olanned rekindling the men’s wing of the association. She called for understanding and cooperation during the meeting and prayed for divine guidance before, during, and after the gathering.

Also speaking at the briefing, HRH Engr. Jude Igwe, the paramount ruler of Ndigbo in Idu, praised the convener’s initiative and underscored the importance of peace, love, and unity among Ndigbo in Idu. He urged members to put God first in all their dealings, saying it would strengthen cohesion and progress within the community.

The gathering is expected to draw Igbo residents from across Idu as they take steps to rebuild trust and reestablish a functional union for the community’s collective interest.
