The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has raised the bar in professional training with the graduation of a record number of officers from its 2026 Fourth Combined and Upgrading Course, as the Service moves to strengthen technology-driven border management and migration control.
The Passing Out Parade, held at the Immigration Training School, Kano (ITSK), and the Digital Bridge Institute, marked the successful completion of the course aimed at equipping officers with improved skills to confront emerging challenges in border security and migration management.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, represented at the ceremony by the Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Human Resources Management, SU Agba, told the new graduates that professionalism must remain at the heart of their duties
Agba also highlighted technology as a critical tool for tackling modern border security challenges, urging the officers to deploy their newly acquired knowledge responsibly in the service of the nation.
Nandap, through her representative, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to continuous training, career upgrading and improved welfare for its personnel, stressing that a professionally equipped workforce remains vital to effective immigration management.
Adding another dimension to the ceremony, the Commandant of the Immigration Training School, Kano, CIS AN Akuneme, revealed that the course recorded the highest number of cadets ever mobilised by the School.
Akuneme challenged the officers to remain ahead of evolving border management challenges, particularly by supporting lawful migration while blocking irregular migration and trans-border security threats.
The event also witnessed the presentation of merit awards to outstanding participants, while the commissioning of an ultra-modern market built by the course participants emerged as one of the major highlights of the ceremony.
Representatives of sister security agencies, alongside senior serving and retired immigration officers, attended the colourful Passing Out Parade.
The development was contained in a statement signed by DCI AS Akinlabi, Service Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Immigration Service Headquarters, Abuja, dated September 13, 2026.
