The National Coordinator of the South East Elders and Youths Alliance for Tinubu 2027 (SEEYAT ’27) and former Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Humphrey C. Nsofor, has urged Ndigbo in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to support Senator Philip Aduda and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the nation’s capital.
Nsofor made the appeal on Monday while reflecting on the political engagements between Ndigbo in the FCT and various political parties, during a visit by political stakeholders to the palace of Dr. Uche Egenti, Onyendu Ndigbo in the FCT, on Sunday.
According to him, Aduda has demonstrated commitment to the interests of the Igbo community in the FCT both while in office as a senator and after leaving the Senate.
He specifically cited Aduda’s role in facilitating opportunities and appointments for Ndigbo across the six area councils of the FCT, saying such efforts demonstrated that the former senator had consistently carried the Igbo community along.
Nsofor argued that continued support for Aduda would encourage him to do more for Ndigbo if returned to the Senate.
He also highlighted the importance of political engagement with the government at the centre, arguing that Ndigbo, as an enterprising people with investments across Nigeria, should not isolate themselves from national politics.
The SEEYAT ’27 coordinator further defended the decision of some Igbo stakeholders to support President Bola Tinubu, saying that despite the South-East’s voting pattern in the 2023 presidential election, the Tinubu administration had implemented projects that have benefited the region.
He cited the Second Niger Bridge and other road infrastructure projects as examples, noting that the bridge has provided significant relief for travellers and businesses moving between the South-East and South-South regions.
Nsofor maintained that political support should not be viewed merely as an endorsement but as an avenue for constructive engagement, negotiation and greater attention to the needs of the Igbo people.
He therefore called on Ndigbo to support President Tinubu and APC candidates, including Aduda, while using their political influence to demand greater inclusion, development and opportunities for the community.
On Aduda’s record, Nsofor explained that legislators do not directly execute projects but make laws, raise motions and persuade the executive to take action. He said Aduda’s role in facilitating opportunities for people in the FCT should therefore be viewed within the constitutional limits of a senator.
He said the political participation of Ndigbo in the FCT should be strategic, stressing that the community must remain actively engaged with those in government to ensure that its interests are properly represented.
Nsofor further appealed for unity among Ndigbo, saying the community could secure more benefits through constructive political participation and sustained engagement with the government at the centre.
