Call for Peace Ahead of Candidate List

Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, Member Representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, has urged supporters and constituents to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding as they await the official publication of candidates by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Cites Electoral Act, No Primaries in FCT

In a statement issued by in a statement by Obika Media Team on Friday, Hon. Obika said the NDC did not conduct party primaries in the Federal Capital Territory. He noted that the Electoral Act recognizes only two nomination methods — direct primaries and consensus — making consensus the only lawful option available to the party in the FCT.

Declares Himself Consensus Candidate

“Consequently, I stand as the duly adopted consensus candidate for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency,” he declared. Obika appealed to constituents to remain tranquil and avoid unlawful conduct, stressing that the NDC must abide by the Electoral Act and uphold consensus, which he says is the party’s only legal path in the area.

Seeks Support for Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket

The lawmaker also called on supporters to maintain unwavering backing for the NDC and its Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, Mr. Peter Obi and Engr. Rabiu Kwankwaso. He said unity behind the party’s national ticket is crucial as the election approaches.

Warns of Legal Pushback

However, Obika issued a stern warning to the NDC. He said if the party disregards the clear provisions of the electoral law, he would explore every lawful avenue to reclaim his mandate. “If the party disregards the clear provisions of our electoral law, I will leave no stone unturned in using all legal means to ensure justice prevails,” he stated.

Reassures Constituents

The statement concluded with reassurance to voters: “AMAC/Bwari is OK!” It was signed by Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika-MHR, Member Representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, FCT Abuja.
