The President General (PG) of Ogbunka community, Hon. Ikechukwu Chukwubueze, has posed key questions and charges to fathers in the ancient town as part of International Father’s Day celebrations. Speaking on behalf of the community’s leaders, on the day set apart for marking of the yearly event, he urged every man to reflect on his role in building peace and securing the future of Ogbunka.
Ogbunka is an ancient community located in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
In a message addressed to “Ndi Ogbunka, Umunnem”, Hon. Chukwubueze asked how far each father has struggled to entrench peace as “Nna”. He further queried what sacrifices have been made for peace in Ogbunka, and what contributions are being made toward the upliftment of Ogbunka, its descendants and children. The PG also tasked fathers to account for how many sons and daughters they have lifted from poverty and nothingness to prosperity and purpose.
The community leader further challenged fathers to examine their conduct. He asked whether they are propagating peace, unity and harmony, or instead fueling acrimony, disunity, insecurity and division. He stressed that fatherhood must be measured by actions that build the community, not destroy it.
Quoting scripture, Hon. Chukwubueze contrasted good and bad fatherhood. He said a good father acquires inheritance for his children, while a bad father leaves behind poverty, curses, insecurity, enmity, hardship and the anger of God. He added that every man’s legacy will be judged by his contributions to his immediate family, extended family, kindred, village, and the generality of Ogbunka.
Describing the day as a divine call to establish peace, reconciliation, unity and harmony, he notes that fatherhood carries the same charge given in the Garden of Eden, urging men to reflect on their responsibilities to family and community.
Concluding with “I love you all, Ndi Ogbunkalese. Daalunu umunnem”, Hon. Chukwubueze urged everyone to turn a new leaf from today. He called for Father’s Day to be commemorated with renewed commitment to peace, happiness and celebration for the sake of present and future offspring.
