Osun 2026: Adeleke camp demands probe as Fadahunsi explains viral ‘Kill Accord’ video

The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, over his viral comment instructing supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party.

The summons follows widespread outrage on social media after a video of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senator surfaced, allegedly telling party supporters to attack Accord members during the electoral process.

In a letter dated August 11, 2026, the police asked the senator to “clarify the circumstances” surrounding the statements reportedly made during an APC campaign event in Ilesa on Tuesday.

The invitation was signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police, Elections, Osun State. He directed Fadahunsi to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 12, at 11:00 am.

“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature,” the letter stated.

It added that the statement has already circulated on various electronic and social media platforms, sparking public concern ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

In the video shared on X on Tuesday, the senator, who spoke in Yoruba, was heard saying: “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too.”

Following the backlash, Fadahunsi’s team issued a swift rebuttal. They said the comment was misinterpreted and was actually “a call on supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means.”

In a statement titled _“Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence,” the senator’s office insisted that “for the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical.”

The development comes amid heightened political tension in the state. Incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election under the Accord Party, has repeatedly accused the APC of deploying thugs to attack and kill his supporters.
