Civil and public servants under the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) are celebrating after the Executive Chairman, Hon. Christopher Zakka (Maikalangu), disbursed salaries a day before the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
The early payment, announced on May 26, 2026, was aimed at easing the financial burden of holiday preparations for workers and their families. Many staff said they were surprised by the gesture.
A senior public servant, who spoke anonymously, described the move as worker-friendly and timely given the current economic situation. “Preparing for Sallah under the current economic climate hasn’t been easy, but getting our salaries a day before the celebration has completely changed things for our families,” the worker said.
“This is what true leadership looks like,” the official added, expressing gratitude to the Chairman on behalf of colleagues at the council secretariat.
According to the council, the timely disbursement will allow hundreds of AMAC workers and their households to celebrate with peace of mind, ensuring they can provide adequate food and provisions for their loved ones.
The announcement was made public through a statement by Kingsley Madaki, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to the Executive Chairman.
Workers across the council secretariat reportedly erupted in jubilation following the payment, describing it as a welcome relief ahead of the Sallah celebrations.
The gesture has been widely praised as an example of responsive governance aimed at supporting workers during festive periods.
