Senate President Godswill Akpabio will on Wednesday (today) receive the United Kingdom High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Peter Vowles, and the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates, Salem Saeed Al Shamsi, on separate courtesy visits at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.
The diplomatic engagements, approved by the President of the Senate, are scheduled to hold at his office in the New Building, Senate Wing, on October 21, 2026.
A statement by Anietie Ekong, Special Assistant on Media and Communication to the Senate President, indicated that Vowles would arrive at 3:00 p.m., while Al Shamsi’s visit would follow at 4:00 p.m.
The visits will bring the two foreign envoys to the office of the Senate President for separate engagements, although the specific issues to be discussed were not stated in the notice.
Ekong communicated the schedule to the Chairman and members of the Senate Press Corps, seeking their cooperation in ensuring adequate media coverage of the diplomatic meetings.
The engagements come amid Nigeria’s continuing diplomatic relations with the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates. However, the Senate has yet to disclose the agenda or expected outcomes of the two courtesy visits.
