A truck driver and two other suspects have been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, over alleged criminal conspiracy and vandalism of Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) pipelines at Dafa village in Kwali Area Council of Abuja.
The suspects were paraded on Wednesday at the NSCDC Kwali Divisional Office by the FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu.
Odumosu said the arrests formed part of the Command’s intensified crackdown on oil theft, pipeline vandalism and other forms of economic sabotage across the Federal Capital Territory.
He said the operation was conducted under the direct supervision of the NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Audi, following intelligence gathered by the Command and collaboration with members of the affected community.
Describing the development as a major breakthrough, Odumosu said the operation underscored the Corps’ determination to protect critical national infrastructure from vandals and other economic saboteurs.
“I have called this briefing to update the public on a major breakthrough achieved by the Command in protecting the nation’s economic arteries,” he said.
The FCT Commandant attributed the arrests to an intelligence-led operation, active community collaboration and the sustained efforts of NSCDC personnel in the past few days.
He warned that the Command would continue to intensify surveillance and enforcement against individuals and groups involved in the vandalism of petroleum infrastructure within the FCT.
Odumosu further appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing attacks on pipelines and other critical infrastructure.
