Abuja

A US-based attorney and health expert, Dr. Okwudili Ezeike, says he is running for the Aguata Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives to deliver the quality representation he says the area currently lacks.

Speaking in a telephone interview on Wednesday, the Ekwulobia-born politician, who is contesting on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, said his decision is driven by the need to address long-standing challenges facing constituents. He cited erosion as a major problem that has destroyed farmland, homes, roads, businesses, schools, and hospitals, among others, leaving basic infrastructure in a poor state.

Ezeike also criticized what he described as the absence of effective motions, bills, and constituency projects from current representatives. He promised that if elected, he would work to attract government presence and attention to Aguata to correct what he called systemic neglect.

The aspirant said he was dissatisfied with lawmakers who, in his words, “warm chairs in the green chamber” without producing tangible results for their people. He stressed that Aguata needs a representative focused on service delivery and measurable outcomes.

Drawing on his experience in law and healthcare abroad, Ezeike said he has seen how systems that prioritize accountability and citizen welfare operate. He pledged to bring those lessons home to improve governance and public service in the constituency.

His campaign, he said, will focus on practical solutions to issues affecting residents, including healthcare access, education, youth empowerment, and infrastructure development, among similar others. He noted that despite producing prominent leaders in the past, Aguata still lags behind on key development indices.

Ezeike called on party members and constituents to embrace politics based on ideas and competence rather than patronage. He argued that the time has come for new voices with fresh perspectives to represent the constituency at the National Assembly.

He pledged to run an issue-based campaign and remain accessible to the people if elected, promising that his tenure would reflect the aspirations of Aguata residents.
