President-General (PG) of the Anambra State Towns People Association (ASTPA), Abuja Chapter, Chief (Sir) Arinze Anadu (Nwachinemelu), has charged members of the newly inaugurated Women’s Wing to lead with wisdom, serve with humility and work with integrity.
Anadu gave the charge on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Women’s Wing of ASTPA at the FCT Christians Pilgrimage Welfare Board, Wuse Zone 5.
He said the inauguration represented a new chapter in the association’s efforts to harness the contributions and potential of Anambra women living in Abuja.
According to him, women have remained an indispensable part of the association, contributing to mobilisation, fundraising, family welfare, counselling and cultural preservation.
He said the time had come to move women from the background to the frontline of community development.
“It is time to give structure to their passion. It is time to give voice to their vision. It is time to give power to their purpose,” he said.
Anadu urged the women to regard their new responsibilities as a call to service rather than an avenue for acquiring titles.
He said the Women’s Wing should preserve Igbo language, traditional values and cultural identity among Anambra families in Abuja.
He also charged the women to promote welfare and empowerment programmes for widows, struggling mothers and young girls.
The President-General urged them to establish skill acquisition, cooperative and mentorship initiatives capable of improving the economic circumstances of members.
He also called on the Women’s Wing to strengthen relationships among ASTPA members and town unions and respond promptly to cases of crisis within the community.
Responding, the newly appointed Chairlady of the ASTPA Women’s Wing, Mrs Amaka Onuora, pledged to work closely with the parent association.
Onuora said her administration would not operate independently of ASTPA but would work within the association’s constitution and mandate.
She said she would prioritise unity, stronger relationships with ASTPA’s leadership and productive cooperation between the women’s and men’s bodies.
The Chairlady said her administration would also seek to educate women about the principles and objectives of ASTPA.
She promised to work with her executive members to develop innovative ideas that could contribute to the growth of the association.
