Abuja

Hon. Joshua Chinedu Obika, representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has called on constituents to translate the spirit of June 12 into concrete action for grassroots development and accountability.

In a Democracy Day message on June 12, 2026, Obika addressed: “My Fellow Constituents, the good people of AMAC and Bwari; my colleagues in the National Assembly; and distinguished citizens of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and our great nation, Nigeria.

“Today is a day etched in the soul of our nation. As we mark Democracy Day, we do not merely celebrate a date on the calendar; we honor the memory of heroes, known and unknown, who sacrificed their today for our tomorrow.”

The lawmaker recalled the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election and saluted Nigerians who stood firm for the principle that “the voice of the people is the supreme authority.” He said this year’s celebration “carries a deeper resonance. It is a call to action.”

Speaking as the representative in the Green Chamber, Obika said he has witnessed both the resilience of constituents and the gaps that must be closed urgently. “True democracy is not measured by the elegance of our speeches, but by the quality of our roads, the availability of clean water, the functionality of our primary health centers, and the safety of our communities,” he stated.

He described the mandate given to him as “a sacred covenant” and reaffirmed that his office “shall remain a tool for the liberation of our people from the shackles of poor representation.” His legislative agenda, he said, will focus on grassroots infrastructure, education, empowerment and enterprise, with skills acquisition programs designed to deliver tangible employment rather than palliatives.

Obika also stressed accountability as a pillar of his work, pledging to ensure that “the dividends of democracy reach the last person in the farthest ward of AMAC/Bwari.” He urged leaders to govern with fear of God and integrity, while calling on citizens to remain vigilant, engaged and peaceful.

“Let us reject the politics of bitterness and division. Let us build a constituency where your tribe or political party matters less than your character and your contribution,” he said. “The spirit of June 12 is the spirit of the ordinary Nigerian refusing to be silenced. Let us channel that spirit into building an AMAC/Bwari we will be proud to leave for the next generation.”
